Favorites to Win NCAA Basketball National Championship

The NCAA basketball tournament, known affectionately as March Madness, will tip off in less than two weeks. Fans around the country have their opinions on who the favorites are and who the top seeds will be.

At the same time, odds makers have continually updated each week the favorites to win the national title. There have been five teams that have remained in the mix for most of the season Kansas, Michigan State, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Villanova. The five top the list as favorites to win the title.

The most recent odds released by bookmakers earlier this week had Michigan State as the favorite to win the title at 11 to 2, followed by Kansas and North Carolina at 7 to 1, Villanova at 11 to 1 and Oklahoma at 12 to 1.

Others in the mix not to be overlooked are Virginia at 13 to 1 as well as Kentucky and Xavier at 14 to 1. Kentucky had a strong showing on Saturday against LSU. The Wildcats have not had the success this season that some thought they would, but they cannot be overlooked.

Michigan State is playing excellent basketball at the right time. The Spartans are healthy against when Denzel Valentine back after an injury earlier in the season.

However, Kansas has great depth and has won its 12th straight Big 12 total and will enter the tournament brimming with confidence.

Offensively, North Carolina is as good as anyone is, and showed that Saturday with its win at Duke.

However, odds makers are giving the nod at this time to Michigan State. Valentine, who is averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.2 assists, is the top player in the country, regardless of how many points per game Buddy Hield is scoring for Oklahoma.

Valentine can do it all on the floor and at a very high level. What separates the Spartans from other teams is that everyone on the team knows his role and is willing to make the sacrifice for the better of the team.
