NY Jets sign RB cook

NY Jets and Running Back Dalvin Cook Agree to Terms

15 August, 2023

The offense of the New York Jets just gained another elite playmaker to work with Aaron Rodgers.

According to a source with knowledge of the negotiations, Dalvin Cook, a former running back for the Minnesota Vikings, and the New York Jets reached an agreement on a one-year contract on Monday.

Because the team hadn’t made the arrangement public, the individual talked to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity. The $8.6 million deal was first revealed by NFL Network and ESPN.

Cook, who turned 28 last week, has rushed for at least 1,000 yards each of the last four seasons. However, the Vikings released Cook on June 8 in order to save money on the salary cap. He was expected to add more than $14.1 million to the salary cap for the Vikings.

Cook now joins the new Jets offense, which is coached by Nathaniel Hackett and features wide receiver Garrett Wilson, the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year from last year, after a few weeks of rumors about where he would sign.

Cook said during an interview on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” that the Jets “are right at the top of the list” and that the prospects of signing with them were “pretty high.” On July 30, Cook visited with New York and observed a practice.

The former Florida State standout also expressed desire in playing for the Miami Dolphins and claimed that doing so would be “a Cinderella story” for him.

He decided on the Jets instead. And it’s yet another indication that New York is putting everything on the line to not only break the NFL’s 12-season postseason drought, but also advance far in the playoffs.

Jets coach Robert Saleh recently reaffirmed the team’s interest by saying, “We’ll never say no to a great player.” “If the chance comes along in the appropriate way. As a result, we are anticipating his visit.

During his visit, the Jets wanted to make sure his surgically repaired shoulder was in good condition.

Saleh described him as lively. He carries the ball with agility. He has traditionally been a terrific ball carrier. He excels at passing the ball. And so, as I said, it just depends on the specifics of that. I won’t go into too much detail, but you can’t turn down a talented football player. typically manage to find a way.

After spending six seasons with the Vikings, Cook, who is currently third on Minnesota’s all-time rushing list with 5,993 yards, moves to New York to join Rodgers, who was acquired by the Jets in April. Since joining the Jets, Rodgers has made it obvious that he believes the squad has a chance to advance far in the playoffs.

Cook concurs with his new quarterback as well.

Cook said on “Good Morning Football” that the circumstance was special because “I think they’re building something special over there.” “When you think about it, you always want to be around a great quarterback because you want to be able to pick his brain and simply learn from him. A-Rod has won MVP four times. Consequently, you may learn a lot more and improve as a player just by being around a guy like that.

“That’s what I want to do,” she said.

As Breece Hall recovers from a knee injury that ended his promising rookie season, Cook also provides some insurance for New York in the backfield. At the position, the Jets also have Michael Carter, Zonovan Knight, Damarea Crockett, Israel Abanikanda, a fifth-round draft pick, and undrafted free agent Travis Dye.

Under coordinator Mike LaFleur, New York had one of the league’s least productive offenses the previous two seasons. The team anticipates a significant turnaround this year. In addition to helping Hackett set up the offense that the quarterback used to win his last two NFL MVP awards in Green Bay in 2020 and 2021, Rodgers participated in every voluntarily scheduled offseason practice for the Jets.

Wilson, Corey Davis, Mecole Hardman, and ex-Packers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb will be Rodgers’ wide receivers, while C.J. Uzomah, Tyler Conklin, and Jeremy Ruckert will be his tight ends. In addition to enhancing the rushing attack, Cook should compliment them in the passing game.
