C.J. Stroud, a rookie quarterback, named starter for the first preseason game

Stroud and third-year quarterback Davis Mills have been competing for the starting role throughout camp, but coach DeMeco Ryans announced Monday that the No. 2 pick in the April draft would start over Mills in the preseason opener. Throughout most of training camp, Stroud and Mills split first-team reps, but Stroud has begun to take the majority of the snaps.

Kareem Hunt will pay a visit to the Saints on Tuesday

The New Orleans Saints have placed running back Eno Benjamin on injured reserve with a ruptured Achilles, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, and will bring in Kareem Hunt to add depth. The move would also assist to mitigate the damage of losing Alvin Kamara for the first three games after he was suspended for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

For the first time since seeking a trade, LB Devin White speaks out

White, a Pro Bowl linebacker, said Monday that he “got a little selfish” after asking a trade this offseason, but that he has returned with a positive attitude and is focused on the season. White stated that he spoke with coach Todd Bowles and general manager Jason Licht, adding that these meetings helped smooth things out.

Williams, a Titans assistant, will serve as head coach for the preseason opener

Coach Mike Vrabel says associate head coach/defensive line coach Terrell Williams would take over as head coach in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. Williams will make game-day choices. Vrabel, on the other hand, will remain on the sidelines. Vrabel praised Williams for his ability to communicate with teammates outside of his position group.
