After Week 1, Florida State is deserving of a spot in the top five.
In the lone Week 1 contest between ranked rivals, the Seminoles defeated LSU 45-24 in Orlando on Sunday.
The Seminoles’ victory strategy should support their case for moving up to No. 5 from No. 8.
Despite being ranked No. 6, the USC Trojans’ victories over the San Jose State Spartans and the Nevada Wolf Pack shouldn’t have the same impact on voters as Florida State’s did.
Although Neal Brown’s team is predicted to be towards the bottom of the Big 12 rankings, at least the No. 7 Penn State Nittany Lions faced a team from a power-five conference in the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Jordan Travis and company should be in fifth place because it is still unclear whether they are on par with the top four teams.
On September 23, the Seminoles travel to face the No. 9 Clemson Tigers in a contest that will determine the ACC favorite.
The Buffaloes traveled to Fort Worth and thrillingly defeated the 2022 College Football Playoff runner-up.
In his first season in Boulder, Deion Sanders seemed to have a good squad on his hands. The question is now if the Buffaloes performed well enough to make the Top 25.
Colorado was the first unranked team to defeat a Top 25 opponent, and it did so on the road. However, Colorado had received no votes in either preseason poll when it played that opponent.
A club like the UCLA Bruins could easily go up to No. 25 in the poll, while TCU drops out. In the AP poll, UCLA garnered 66 votes, while in the Coaches poll, it received 43 votes.
The South Carolina Gamecocks and Texas Tech Red Raiders received the most votes in the AP poll among teams ranked outside the top 25. UCLA came in third. South Carolina and Texas Tech both suffered defeats on Saturday.
After losing to the Wyoming Cowboys, Texas Tech will drop to No. 24 in the Coaches Poll, and the Iowa Hawkeyes, who received the most votes outside the top 25, will take Texas Tech’s place.
The voters may choose UCLA as a safe pick and well-known option if TCU drops out of both polls, as it should do given the circumstances of its loss.
Colorado should be on the cusp of the Top 25 after defeating the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Week 2, but some people could wait until the Buffs’ two-game stretch against the Oregon Ducks and USC on September 23 and 30 to decide if they’re for serious.
