The Rays’ 9-3 victory over the Red Sox on Thursday matched them with the 1982 Braves and the 1987 Brewers for the finest start in Major League Baseball history.
It’s important to remember that overnight success isn’t necessarily a good thing. The Braves were swept by the Cardinals in the National League Championship Series, and the Brewers failed to qualify for the playoffs.
The Rays are a deep squad. The team’s pitching staff is dominant, and with 32 home runs, the offense is the best in the league. Although there is no such thing as a flawless beginning, this group has gotten off to a great start.
Tonight, the Rays are in Toronto and are starting Drew Rasmussen who is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. The Blue Jays will be starting Jose Berrios who is 0-2 with a 11.17 ERA. Yet, the Rays are only -117 favorites at BetOnline.ag. Things that make you go hmmmmm. Are you going to throw down some cheddar on the Rays and hope for history to be made?
