On Saturday, Bronny James openly committed to USC, effectively ending his highly publicized recruitment. As a result of this new information, the 2023-24 season’s Trojans are now ranked No. 13 in Version 11.0. Preseason college basketball rankings for CBS Sports’ Top 25 and 1.
James, son of NBA scoring leader LeBron James, is a 26th-ranked four-star recruit in the Class of 2023 according to 247Sports. He’s a 6-foot-3 combo guard who competes hard on both ends of the court and stays inside himself most of the time. Bronny is averaging 14 points, a team-high 5.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game for Sierra Canyon, one of the most stacked high school teams.
Considering the addition of Isaiah Collier, a 6-foot-4 guard and the top prospect in the Class of 2023, plus the return of 6-foot-3 guard Boogie Ellis, the team’s highest scorer from last season, James might not seem like an obvious starting point guard for the Trojans. Whatever the case may be, he should be able to contribute to a rotation that should be the favorite to win the 2024 Pac-12 regular-season championship by adding depth and shooting.
Top-ranked Kansas continues to lead the pack. And 1 now that former Michigan All-American Hunter Dickinson has joined the team. The following is a possible starting lineup for KU:
G: Dajuan Harris
G: Elmarko Jackson
G: Nick Timberlake
F: K.J. Adams
C: Hunter Dickinson
In fact, previous top-35 prospects Arterio Morris and Ernest Udeh will likely start games on the bench, since the starting lineup already features size, shooting, and experience. Considering that the roster and coaching duties will be handled by Bill Self, a member of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame who has led the Jayhawks to 24 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and No. 1 seeds in 10 of the past 16 NCAA Tournaments, I think it’s safe to say that the Jayhawks are now the favorites to win the 2024 tournament.
