For Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels, it’s awful news. The great outfielder’s left wrist X-rays revealed a broken hamate bone, placing him on the 10-day injured list.
On Monday, Trout was hurt while playing against the San Diego Padres. Trout scowled and shook his left wrist after fouling off a 0-1 ball from reliever Nick Martinez in the eighth inning. Trout departed the game and did not complete the at-bat after receiving a brief evaluation from an athletic trainer.
Trout broke his wrist during the swing rather than being struck by the ball. Even though it wasn’t a contact injury, he claimed after the game that he had never experienced pain like it.
Trout, speaking to the Associated Press, stated, “I can’t convey the agony I felt. “This is the first time I’ve ever felt it. I never experienced any wrist issues. freaky things only.
The Angels (45-42) were defeated 10-3.
Trout told the reporters on Tuesday that he intends to play again this year. Trout may require surgery, which would require a 4- to 8-week recovery period.
The Angels’ injury comes at a terrible moment because they’re actually in the thick of the postseason race. They are only three games out of the American League wild card and six games back of the American League West-leading Texas Rangers. This is not the time for them to be without one of their greatest players for the customary rehabilitation period of 4 to 8 weeks. Trout would therefore be quite rusty when he rejoins the Angels in the middle of September, when the standings might have substantially changed.
Along with teammate Shohei Ohtani, Trout was selected as American League starters on Sunday. This will be Trout’s third consecutive All-Star Game absence due to injury, and another player will take his place at the game.
