DJ Moore Turning Heads in Chicago

24 May, 2023

Wide receiver DJ Moore of the Chicago Bears is looking to spark the team’s offense this season, and it goes without saying that throughout practices at Halas Hall, he has left a lasting impact on both the coaching staff and his new teammates.

Moore believes he can have a significant influence for his new team, and the coaching staff concurs. Moore was acquired by the Bears in the historic trade that saw the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft go to the Carolina Panthers.

Speed is the first thing I (noticed),” according to head coach Matt Eberflus. “I only just saw that yesterday, and I was like, ‘Wow.’ You realize there’s a separate gear there? Yesterday’s sighting of that was fantastic.

The receiver, who has more than 50 catches in each of his first five NFL seasons, combines exceptional technique and raw athletic talent, according to Eberflus.

“It’s rare to have a guy who can run the route and have the route discipline he has, the football IQ he has, and then also that speed and that talent he has,” he said.

In his third season in the NFL, quarterback Justin Fields is eager to advance personally and is excited to have a new offensive tool at his disposal.

“People were blowing up my phone about the guy being traded,” he claimed. “DJ brings a great talent to this team, and just his personality fits in well with everybody from the first day he got here. He’s a hard-worker, and his personality, just the way he acts, he fits in well with the team.”

Fields believes that during summer workouts and training camps, he will get to know Moore better. He plans to concentrate on reading Moore’s body language and figuring out where to place the ball when the receiver is running routes.

Tremaine Edmunds, a linebacker who joined the Bears after a productive spell with the Buffalo Bills, claims to have admired Moore, who was selected the same year, for a very long time.

He remarked, “I’ve had the pleasure of watching him for a while,” he said. “Seeing the good things he’d done in Carolina makes me excited to know he’s on our team. To see those spectacular plays and big-time catches, and when a play needs to be made, to have a guy that can do that means a lot to our team. That’s a guy that makes you excited about what’s to come.”

Moore has 364 catches for 5,201 yards and 21 touchdowns in 80 games throughout his career. He has made all 17 starts in each of the last two seasons, and the 2022 season saw him haul in 63 passes for 888 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns.

This season, the Bears have added a number of offensive tools to aid Fields, with Moore being the clear star. In addition to drafting running back Roschon Johnson out of Texas and wide receiver Tyler Scott out of Cincinnati, tight end Robert Tonyan has also joined the team.

Additionally, they signed former Carolina running back D’Onta Freeman, who finished the previous season with 914 rushing yards and five touchdowns in 17 games.
