In the AFC, it's Pittsburgh. In the NFC, it's the Saints that are in the midst of a losing streak and need to get back on track before the playoffs begin.

New Orleans has lost two straight, including last week's 32-29 defeat at home. The Saints are favored by a touchdown over Minnesota this week at home and can gain some ground on Green Bay in the race for the NFC's No. 1 seed.

What New Orleans would like to avoid is a repeat of the last time Minnesota visited the Superdome. The Vikings were 7.5-point underdogs in last year's NFC Wild Card game. Minnesota would go on to win 26-20 in overtime.

The Vikings have had a pretty disappointing 2020 season. Their playoff chances hinge on winning their last two games and then getting a ton of help. Minnesota blew an opportunity last week when the Vikings lost to Chicago 33-27 to leave them at 6-8 overall.

Defense Like Swiss Cheese

Minnesota's defense, normally a strong point under head coach Mike Zimmer, is falling apart. All you have to do is look at the NFL scores . Part of the fall is due to the absence of LB Eric Kendricks who has missed the last three weeks. As a result of poor defensive play, the Vikings have failed to cover in each of their last five games.

New Orleans hasn't been much better lately. Drew Brees returned to the lineup last week but looked a lot like a quarterback who hadn't played in over a month. Brees went just 5-of-16 in the first half of last week's loss to Kansas City.

The Saints will be without WR Michael Thomas again and, as luck would have it, Tre'Quan Smith left last week's game with an ankle injury. Still, the Saints have enough weapons to beat anyone, especially with a defense that has been playing very well.

New Orleans' two-game losing streak is the first time the team has lost back-to-back games since the 2017 season. If history is any indication, the Saints will bounce back. Since head coach Sean Payton's second season in 2007, New Orleans is 19-6 in games following consecutive losses.

Vikings @ Saints Free Pick

The key in this game is Vikings QB Kirk Cousins. While he's not a superstar, he's definitely not the bottom of the barrel either. He is a middle of the road NFL quarterback, especially when it comes to his ATS record with the Vikings - 22-22-1.

Throughout his career, Cousins has underwhelmed in prime-time games, especially the ones not played on a Sunday. In such games, Cousins is a disappointing 6-14 ATS. Breaking it down even further, Cousins is a horrible 3-7-1 ATS in road games in prime-time.

This Friday, the Saints-Vikings matchup is the only NFL game on the schedule. It's a game where Brees and company recover from their two-game skid and get ready for the playoffs where they can potentially still capture the top seed in the NFC.

Look for New Orleans to step up its game and cover on Christmas Day.
