Alvarez and Altuve Return to Astros

31 July, 2023

The Houston Astros added some important players from within during a week when their division rivals made significant trades before the trade deadline when Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve were activated.

They have already established themselves.

Altuve had six hits in a three-game series against Tampa Bay, and Alvarez has a hit in each of the four games since his return, including a home run on Saturday. Texas, who is currently leading the AL West, is still under pressure from the Astros. Houston is behind the Rangers by one game.

Despite being the defending World Series champions, it has been simple to ignore the Astros. The American League has been filled with amazing tales this season, from Baltimore’s abundance of young talent to Tampa Bay’s outstanding start. Houston has been somewhat overshadowed by the Rangers and their aggressive front office, as well as the amazing Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels, even within its own division.

Altuve and Alvarez are good additions, but Houston still has time to make its own moves before the deadline on Tuesday. They both had oblique injuries that kept them both out, and Altuve started the season later than usual due to a broken thumb.

Six times in a row, the Astros have advanced to the League Championship Series. Except for Atlanta’s eight-game winning streak from 1991 to 1999, which was broken by the 1994 strike that eliminated the postseason, that is a record.

Which three teams, besides the Astros and Braves, have advanced to the LCS at least four times in a row?
