The 2023 Kentucky Derby, which will be held on Saturday, May 6, at Churchill Downs, will be the quickest two minutes in sports. A potential candidate for the Kentucky Derby in 2023 is Derma Sotogake, who made his debut there. Prior to securing his place in the 2023 Kentucky Derby field by winning the UAE Derby in March, he won the Zen-Nippon Nisai Yushun. The current Kentucky Derby odds for 2023 place Derma Sotogake at a 13-1 odds.
The 5-2 favorite to win the Kentucky Derby in 2023 is Forte, a horse trained by Todd Pletcher. Given his low odds, is there any value to be had on Forte with your 2023 Kentucky Derby wagers?
A stalwart of the horse racing industry who has covered races for years through writing, interviews, and wagering, Demling enters the 2023 Kentucky Derby having correctly predicted the winner of the Belmont Stakes four out of the past five years, including an exacta in 2022 with Mo Donegal and Nest. Also correctly predicted was Flightline’s victory at the Breeders’ Cup Classic in November.
The biggest horse races in the world, including the Kentucky Derby 2023, are where Demling shines. In fact, at Churchill Downs, he has made 10 of the previous 14 Derby-Oaks doubles. In the previous 14 years, he had a ticket that had the winners of both races all but four times. In addition, he accurately predicted the winners of the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and the 2022 Preakness triple. He has correctly predicted nine out of the previous 18 Preakness winners. Anyone who has kept up with him is huge.
Now that futures for the Kentucky Derby in 2023 are available, Demling is providing his choices and forecasts over at SportsLine. To see them, go here.
Demling’s unexpected Kentucky Derby choice for 2023 is: Even though Forte is the clear favorite to win the 2023 Kentucky Derby and has won five straight races, he is fading. Forte had won five straight races, but his fourth-place performance in the 2022 Sanford shows that he can lose.
Forte’s most recent victory came in the Florida Derby, when he trailed the group until the last finish line before using a late run to defeat the competition. His findings cannot be contested, but the value may. 5-2 Kentucky Derby odds 2023 may seem too low for a horse being stretched out in a 10-furlong run given the strong, wide field. Forte will be running his longest race to date, and the 2023 Kentucky Derby field is stacked with fast horses. Despite Forte’s success, Demling believes there are still too many unknowns.
Another surprise: Demling likes Two Phils, despite the fact that he’s a long shot at 21-1. Anyone looking for a big payday will target him. Since his first race in 2022, he has already established a reputation in the world of horse racing. The successful stud Hard Spun, who is renowned for siring superior horses, is the father of Two Phil’s.
When he won the Jeff Ruby Steaks in March, he solidified his status as a Kentucky Derby contender. Jareth Loveberry, a 35-year-old journeyman, who is competing in the Kentucky Derby for the first time, will mount Two Phil’s. Demling claims that Loveberry and Two Phil’s have value as long shots since they are both flying under the radar going into Churchill Downs.
