Jan 1st Rose Bowl Penn St. vs. USC

First glance would make you say that USC is the play here, but Penn St. is a bit different than the rest of the Big 10. They have 2 very good running backs and wide receivers with more speed than anybody in the Big 10. They also possess a defense that never seems to give up too much. I obviously love the USC defense but I have been less than impressed by their offense all year. They struggled to score against Arizona, Oregon St, UCLA and Cal and I think Penn St. has a better defense than all of those teams. If Penn St. can find a way to win the turnover battle they could pull off the upset. The way that USC has destroyed Michigan, Illinois and Ohio St. the past 2 years and Pete Carroll's track record of covering bowl games makes me still take USC. Low scoring game that USC wins 24-13!

Jan 1st Orange Bowl Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati

The first team to 17 wins this game if anybody gets there. My guess is someone will and I have this as another of my 5 STAR PLAYS available on the 1st. I give the offensive edge to Cincinnati and an edge on defense to the Hokies. The difference here is the playmakers as Cincinnati has very good receivers in Barnett and Gilyard and if they make some big plays they'll win, but if Tyrod Taylor can make some scramble plays and move the chains at least every once in a while then Virginia Tech has a good chance. Check back here tomorrow at about 2:00 est. and I'll have this game available for ONLY $20!!

Jan 2nd Cotton Bowl Mississippi vs. Texas Tech

The Red Raiders had visions of a National Championship until they ran into the best offense in this country in Norman. Mississippi also has some interest in the National Championship as they are the only team to beat Florida this year and they did it in Gainesville. They also nearly knocked off at Alabama in Tuscaloosa and they were a team that had a chance to win every game they played with less than 5 minutes to go. This could very well be the last game for Michael Crabtree and if he catches 10 balls for a 130+ yards then Tech will win, but if Snead is able to pick apart the Tech defense then don't be surprised if the Rebels pull off a minor upset. This is the only 5 STAR PLAY that I have going on the 2nd so check back with me late on the 1st!

Jan 2nd Liberty Bowl East Carolina vs. Kentucky

These are two teams that rely heavily on there defenses as throughout stretches all year they both had problems moving the ball. I have a hard time believing that a team with offensive problems like ECU is going to beat an SEC team that played well against teams like Georgia and Alabama. I think that the Wildcats will make just enough plays to allow their defense to win it for them. Take Kentucky to win this in a low scoring game 20-13!

Jan 2nd Sugar Bowl Utah vs. Alabama

This could be a very good game as Alabama has suspended there big tackle Andre Smith for his dealings with an agent. Utah is a legitimate threat in this game with a senior QB in Bryan Johnson and quality playmakers on the oustide with Castille and Mack. What they also have is a pretty solid defense and that is what ultimately gives you a chance. The Utes beat some good teams this year like TCU, BYU and Oregon St, so there no pushover. I know Alabama had a great year in the SEC this year, but they eeked out wins over Kentucky, Ole Miss, LSU and were not impressive against an awful Tulane team that held them to zero offensive TD's. With all that and the bunker mentality Utah will have in this game I like the Utes to cover the current 9.5 point spread even though Bama wins 23-20! Utah could win this game if it comes down kicking as Louis Sekoda is the best duel threat kicker in the nation.

Jan 3rd International Bowl Buffalo vs. UConn

UConn is really limping into this bowl game after losing late in the year in blowouts to West Virginia and Pitt. Buffalo will come in with all kinds of confidence especially on defense after beating Ball St. in the MAC Championship game. The line here is fair as I would give UConn a significant edge on the defensive side of the ball, but I would give Buffalo a big edge as well at Quarterback with Drew Willy. Lorenzen has been terrible for the Huskies the past few games and if he plays the way he has recently UConn will get beat, because Buffalo will just put 8 in the box and not let Donald Brown beat them. This is a game that I have another FIVE STAR PLAY on so check back Friday Night and this game will be available!
