The tournament is down to the final 16 teams. There are no Cinderella stories for this year. But, what we do have is a very competitive and solid final sixteen teams.

Today I want to isolate the Thursday night game between Michigan and Texas Tech. I want to look at some trends and use my gut instinct to pick the winner of this contest.

The Sweet 16 point spreads currently show Michigan as a 2 point favorite. The teams stack up very well against one another. Michigan is 30-6 SU and 21-15 ATS. Tech is 28-6 SU and 17-16-1 ATS. Michigan clearly has the better ATS record.

Texas Tech scores 73 PPG and allows right under 60. Michigan scores 70 PPG and allows 58. TT scores a bit more on average because the style and quality of opponent in the Big 12 vs the Big 10.

These two teams are ranked at the top of college basketball's top defenses this year. This is why the total is only 126 points. You will see ball control and lots of great paint battles.

The matchup everyone will be watching is Texas Tech's Jarret Culver , who scores 18 PPG, try to score double digits against one of the best defenders in the country in Zavier Simpson.

So What will happen?
Texas Tech has won 9 of their last ten games. Michigan is just 7-3 in that same sample size. And the quality of opponent really isn't as big of a factor factor as some people say; Kansas, Oklahoma State, Baylor, TCU, all beat by Texas Tech in that stretch.

I can see a hard fought battle that will be an old school style of ballgame. The edge goes to Texas Tech in my opinion. If the line were a Pick Em' I would have a harder time picking this game but you give me the Raiders getting points and I'll take them every time.
