On Thursday March 15 2018, the NCAA tournament opens with a bit of a strange matchup. But that is what the tournament does, it pairs teams to play one another that may never do so otherwise.

At 12:15 pm EST The Oklahoma Sooners play the Rhode Island Rams. At first glance, to a person that hasn't been paying much attention to the season, this seems like a game where the much more recognized team (Oklahoma) would be favored. But Oklahoma has had a very lackluster season and many debate if they should have even been invited to the big dance.

Rhode Island on the other hand is having a good season and finished the regular season ranked #25 in the nation. Therefore Rhode Island is favored -1.5 points.

Let's take a look at the raw numbers.

Oklahoma is 18-13 straight up. They are 11-20 against the spread. They score 85 PPG and allow 81. They are coming off a loss to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 tournament and have lost 11 of their last 15 games played.

Rhode Island is 25-7 SU and 15-15 ATS. They are coming off a tough one point loss to Davidson. They have lost 3 of their last 5 games played. They score 76 PPG and allow 68 PPG to be scored.

We are calling for the mild upset here. Oklahoma plays against better competition during the season and has some good wins under their belt. They were a good team before they went into second half slump. I think they can muster enough energy together to get the win here. They score at will and this may be a little more than Rhode Island can handle. The next round is probably where they will be sent packing.
